San Marzano

San Marzano is an Italian Heirloom variety, grown outside Naples since the 18th Century. It is the only tomato variety that may be used in the sauce employed for Vera Pizza Napoletana (true Naples Pizza).

2015 – June 28- 3′ vines with 5 fruit.
July 9 – 3′ vine, 60 fruit.

Brandywine

Neves Azorean Red

August Bounty

The garden is now producing full-tilt. Thanks to the unusual heat this summer, even eggplants are thriving, helped along by their black plastic mulch.

Yeller. This yellow-orange variety arose in my garden as the result of unintentional cross-breeding of Manitoba with another unknown variety.

Goodby Hot July

Today wraps up the hottest driest July in the recorded history of our area, culiminating in a record 102 F Wednesday. Today will be a cool 85. The tomato crop still looks good.

Alderman Peas

My 4’x4′ patch of Alderman peas is now 8 feet tall, and loaded with a huge crop. Today I picked a bunch and shelled them – yielding about a pound of shelled peas. These are destined for dinner tonight.
